Cubs Cooking

Posted on March 20th, 2017 by 1st4thscouts

This weekend our Lion’s Cub Pack participated in the Runnymede District Cubs Cooking Competition, cooking up such delights as a Mexican bean stew with rice followed by a lemon pannacotta pudding, all cooked to perfection and artistically presented.  Well done to  both  Lions teams who did a fantastic job in representing  the 1st / 4th Addlestone Scout Group, and in turn raising the cooking standards at this now popular event.

Portacabin Demolition

Thank you for to all the parents that helped dismantle the old portacabin at the rear of the HQ.  Certainly a case of many hands made light work of what could have been a big job.  And a Thank You to Penny and her team for providing the teas, coffees and bacon rolls.

They came from the land down-under

Posted on March 3rd, 2017 by 1st4thscouts

In January we had a visit by two cubs from Mareeba Scout Group, near Cairns, Queensland Australia. It wasn’t on the off chance, they are cousins of Katie. An interesting comparison in uniforms, their version is perhaps more suited to life in (nearly) the tropics? At the end of the meeting I invested a new cub and for many years I have told them about the Membership (world) Badge and for once I could actually prove everybody in scouting wears it, the boys had theirs!

They gave me a set of badges including their Centenary version. Buzz Lightyear would have been pleased, not ‘too infinity and beyond’ just the more down to earth ‘future’. I swapped a set of ours and during their first meeting back Joshua did a ‘show and tell’ and explained what they all stood for. We are planning to do some linking so the cubs can keep in touch.

All in all a very interesting evening, they even saluted when we broke a slightly different flag! I will be in Cairns in December, perhaps I’ll pop in and find out what cub meetings ‘down there’ are like!
